This is the Acupoints section of CMD, which presents 400 or so channel and nonchannel points with location, classical location, local anatomy, indications, traditional indications, needling depth, stimulus, and point groups they belong to, and the meanings of their Chinese names. Links to the Dictionary table are provided.

    • Click Channel to access information in the Dictionary about the channel of interest.
    • Click on Acupoints to see a preview list of all the points on the channel. Just click on the one that interests you.

Searches

  • First, select Headword only or Headword and Text depending on whether you wish to search in the heading of an entry/article or through the heading and the text below it.
  • Then, in the search box, enter alphanumeric codes (e.g., LU-1), unaccented Pīnyīn, simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese, or English (literal translation of the point name).
    Note that joined-up Pīnyīn can be used to search for headwords, but not the whole text.
  • After entering your search word(s), you will see the Search Results appear. You can select
    • Starting with to give you headwords that start with your search string or
    • Containing to give headwords that contain (or the text of which contains) your search string.
  • A filter box below Results allows you to insert another search string to narrow your search. So, for example, if your search string is blood vacuity, you can add headache in the filter box. To find all acupoints in which blood vacuity and headache both appear, either in the headword or headword and text, depending on which selection you have made.

  • The texts include copious links to the Dictionary table.
  • For those studying Chinese, each character of the Chinese headword is linked to the Terms table, where examples of its use can be found, together with links to stroke order animations.

KL, Foot Lesser Yīn (shào yīn) Kidney Channel Points

  • KI-1 涌泉 〔湧泉〕yǒng quán, Gushing Spring
    Modern location: On the inferior aspect of the foot, on a line drawn along the length of the foot roughly midway between the big and little toes, slightly posterior to the ball of the foot (about one third of the distance from the base of the toes to the posterior aspect of the heel).
    Modern indications: Headache; clouded head; insomnia; dizzy vision; painful swollen throat; loss of voice; constipation; inhibited urination; child fright wind; mania and withdrawal; clouding reversal.
  • KI-2 然谷 〔然谷〕rán gǔ, Blazing Valley
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the foot, in the depression inferior to the tuberosity of the navicular bone.
    Modern indications: Menstrual irregularities; seminal emission; dispersion-thirst; diarrhea: coughing of blood; painful swollen throat; inhibited urination; umbilical wind; clenched jaw.
  • KI-3 太溪 〔太谿〕tài xī, Great Ravine
    Modern location: At the ankle joint, midway between the medial malleolus and the Achilles tendon (t. calcaneus), level with the tip of the malleolus.
    Modern indications: Menstrual irregularities; seminal emission; impotence; frequent urination; constipation; dispersion-thirst; coughing of blood; panting; painful swollen throat; toothache; insomnia; lumbar pain; deafness; tinnitus.
  • KI-4 大钟 〔大鐘〕dà zhōng, Large Goblet
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the heel, in the angle formed by the anterior edge of the Achilles tendon (t. calcaneus) and the superior edge of the calcaneum.
    Modern indications: Dribbling urinary block; enuresis; constipation; coughing of blood; panting; feeble-mindedness; heel pain.
  • KI-5 水泉 〔水泉〕shuǐ quán, Water Spring
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the heel, in the concavity of the calcaneum, about 1 cùn straight below KI-3.
    Modern indications: Menstrual irregularities; menstrual pain; amenorrhea; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus); inhibited urination.
  • KI-6 照海 〔照海〕zhào hǎi, Shining Sea
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the foot, about 1 cùn inferior to the lower border of the medial malleolus, inferior to the tibialis posterior tendon.
    Modern indications: Menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus); frequent urination; dribbling urinary block; constipation; painful dry throat; epilepsy; insomnia.
  • KI-7 复溜 〔復溜〕fù liū, Recover Flow
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the lower leg, 2 cùn superior to the tip of the medial malleolus, adjacent to the anterior border of the Achilles tendon (t. calcaneus).
    Modern indications: Water swelling; abdominal distension; diarrhea; night sweating; febrile disease with absence of sweating; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs.
  • KI-8 交信 〔交信〕jiāo xìn, Intersection Reach
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the lower leg, 2 cùn superior to the medial malleolus, adjacent to the posterior border of the tibia.
    Modern indications: Menstrual irregularities; flooding and spotting; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus); mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); diarrhea; constipation; painful swelling of the testicles.
  • KI-9 筑宾 〔築賓〕zhú bīn, Guest House
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the lower leg, 5 cùn superior to the medial malleolus, just inferior to the contour of the lower border of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle on the line connecting KI-3 (tài xī) and KI-10 (yīn gǔ).
    Modern indications: Mania and withdrawal; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); vomiting and retching; lower leg pain.
  • KI-10 阴谷 〔陰谷〕yīn gǔ, Yīn Valley
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the knee, at the medial end of the popliteal crease, between the tendons of the semitendinosus and semimembranosus muscles.
    Modern indications: Impotence; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); flooding and spotting; inhibited urination; aching pain in the knee and back of the knees (popliteal fossa).
  • KI-11 横骨 〔橫骨〕héng gǔ, Pubic Bone
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 5 cùn inferior to the umbilicus, at the superior border of the pubic bone, 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Distension and pain in the lesser abdomen; inhibited urination; enuresis; seminal emission; impotence; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia).
  • KI-12 大赫 〔大赫〕dà hè, Great Manifestation
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 4 cùn inferior to the umbilicus and 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Seminal emission; impotence; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus); vaginal discharge.
  • KI-13 气穴 〔氣穴〕qì xué, Qì Point
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 3 cùn inferior to the umbilicus and 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; inhibited urination; diarrhea.
  • KI-14 四满 〔四滿〕sì mǎn, Fourfold Fullness
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 2 cùn inferior to the umbilicus and 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; enuresis; seminal emission; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia): constipation; abdominal pain; water swelling.
  • KI-15 中注 〔中注〕zhōng zhù, Central Flow
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 1 cùn inferior to the umbilicus and 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; abdominal distension; vomiting and retching; constipation; diarrhea.
  • KI-18 石关 〔石關〕shí guān, Stone Pass
    Modern location: On the upper abdomen, 3 cùn superior to the umbilicus and 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Vomiting and retching; abdominal pain; constipation; infertility.
  • KI-19 阴都 〔陰都〕yīn dū, Yīn Metropolis
    Modern location: On the upper abdomen, 4 cùn superior to the umbilicus and 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Rumbling intestines; abdominal distension; abdominal pain; constipation; infertility.
  • KI-21 幽门 〔幽門〕yōu mén, Dark Gate
    Modern location: On the upper abdomen, 6 cùn superior to the umbilicus and 0.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; abdominal distension; vomiting and retching; diarrhea.
  • KI-22 步廊 〔步廊〕bù láng, Corridor Walk
    Modern location: On the chest, in the fifth intercostal space, 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; distension and fullness in the chest and rib-side; vomiting and retching.
  • KI-23 神封 〔神封〕shén fēng, Spirit Seal
    Modern location: On the chest, in the fourth intercostal space, 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; distention and fullness in the chest and rib-side; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng).
  • KI-24 灵墟 〔靈墟〕líng xū, Spirit Ruins
    Modern location: On the chest, in the third intercostal space, 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; distension and fullness in the chest and rib-side; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng).
  • KI-27 俞府 〔俞府〕shù fǔ, Transport House
    Modern location: On the chest, in a small depression just inferior to the sternal head of the clavicle, 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; chest pain; vomiting and retching.
