This is the Acupoints section of CMD, which presents 400 or so channel and nonchannel points with location, classical location, local anatomy, indications, traditional indications, needling depth, stimulus, and point groups they belong to, and the meanings of their Chinese names. Links to the Dictionary table are provided.

Searches

  • First, select Headword only or Headword and Text depending on whether you wish to search in the heading of an entry/article or through the heading and the text below it.
  • Then, in the search box, enter alphanumeric codes (e.g., LU-1), unaccented Pīnyīn, simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese, or English (literal translation of the point name).
    Note that joined-up Pīnyīn can be used to search for headwords, but not the whole text.
  • After entering your search word(s), you will see the Search Results appear. You can select
    • Starting with to give you headwords that start with your search string or
    • Containing to give headwords that contain (or the text of which contains) your search string.
  • A filter box below Results allows you to insert another search string to narrow your search. So, for example, if your search string is blood vacuity, you can add headache in the filter box. To find all acupoints in which blood vacuity and headache both appear, either in the headword or headword and text, depending on which selection you have made.

BL, Foot Greater Yáng Bladder (tài yáng) Channel Points

  • BL-1 睛明 〔睛明〕jīng míng, Bright Eyes
    Modern location: On the face, 0.1 cùn directly above the inner canthus of the eye, in the space between the eyeball and the bones forming the medial orbit.
    Modern indications: Painful red swollen eyes; tearing; unclear vision; night blindness; color blindness.
  • BL-2 攒竹 〔攢竹〕zǎn zhú, Bamboo Gathering
    Modern location: On the face, in a small depression at the medial end of the eyebrow.
    Modern indications: Headache; deviated eyes and mouth; unclear vision; tearing; painful red swollen eyes; twitching of the eyelids: pain in the supraorbital ridge; drooping eyelids (blepharoptosis).
  • BL-4 曲差 〔曲差〕qū chā, Deviating Turn
    Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, 0.5 cùn within the anterior hairline and 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Headache; unclear vision; eye pain; nasal congestion; nosebleed.
  • BL-5 五处 〔五處〕wǔ chù, Fifth Place
    Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, in a depression 1 cùn within the anterior hairline and 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; epilepsy.
  • BL-6 承光 〔承光〕chéng guāng, Light Guard
    Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, in a depression 2.5 cùn within the anterior hairline and 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; nasal congestion; febrile disease.
  • BL-7 通天 〔通天〕tōng tiān, Celestial Connection
    Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, in a depression 4 cùn within the anterior hairline and 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizziness; nasal congestion; nosebleed; deep-source nasal congestion.
  • BL-8 络却 〔絡卻〕luò què, Declining Connection
    Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, in a depression 5.5 cùn within the anterior hairline and 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Dizzy head; unclear vision; tinnitus; mania and withdrawal.
  • BL-9 玉枕 〔玉枕〕yù zhěn, Jade Pillow
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the head, in a depression level with the superior border of the external occipital protuberance (eop), 1.3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Headache and painful nape; eye pain; nasal congestion.
  • BL-10 天柱 〔天柱〕tiān zhù, Celestial Pillar
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the neck, on the lateral side of the trapezius muscle, 0.5 cùn within the posterior hairline and 1.3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Headache; stiff nape; nasal congestion; mania and withdrawal; epilepsy; shoulder and back pain; febrile disease.
  • BL-11 大杼 〔大杼〕dà zhù, Great Shuttle
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the first thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; heat effusion; headache; stiff nape; shoulder and back pain.
  • BL-12 风门 〔風門〕fēng mén, Wind Gate
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the second thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Wind damage (common cold); cough; heat effusion; headache; stiff nape; chest and back pain.
  • BL-13 肺俞 〔肺俞〕fèi shù, Lung Transport
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; vomiting of blood (blood ejection); steaming bone tidal heat effusion; night sweating; nasal congestion.
  • BL-15 心俞 〔心俞〕xīn shù, Heart Transport
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the fifth thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Epilepsy; fright palpitation; cough; vomiting of blood (blood ejection); insomnia; profuse dreaming; forgetfulness; heart vexation; epilepsy.
  • BL-16 督俞 〔督俞〕dū shù, Governing Transport
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the sixth thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Heart pain; oppression in the chest; abdominal pain; alternating heat effusion and aversion to cold; panting.
  • BL-17 膈俞 〔膈俞〕gé shù, Diaphragm Transport
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the seventh thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Vomiting and retching; hiccup; panting; cough; vomiting of blood (blood ejection); tidal heat effusion; night sweating.
  • BL-18 肝俞 〔肝俞〕gān shù, Liver Transport
    Modern location: On the back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the ninth thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Jaundice; rib-side pain; vomiting of blood (blood ejection); nosebleed; red eyes; dizzy vision; night blindness; mania and withdrawal; epilepsy; pain in the spinal column.
  • BL-19 胆俞 〔膽俞〕dǎn shù, Gallbladder Transport
    Modern location: On the back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the tenth thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Jaundice; bitter taste in the mouth; rib-side pain; pulmonary consumption (TB); tidal heat effusion.
  • BL-20 脾俞 〔脾俞〕pí shù, Spleen Transport
    Modern location: On the back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the eleventh thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal distension; jaundice; vomiting and retching; diarrhea; bloody stool; dysentery; water swelling; back pain; insomnia.
  • BL-21 胃俞 〔胃俞〕wèi shù, Stomach Transport
    Modern location: On the back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the twelfth thoracic vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Chest and rib-side pain; pain in the stomach duct; abdominal distension; vomiting and retching; rumbling intestines.
  • BL-22 三焦俞 〔三焦俞〕sān jiāo shù, Triple Burner Transport
    Modern location: On the lower back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal distension; rumbling intestines; vomiting and retching; diarrhea and dysentery; water swelling; painful stiffness of the back and lumbus.
  • BL-23 肾俞 〔腎俞〕shèn shù, Kidney Transport
    Modern location: On the lower back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the second lumbar vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Enuresis; seminal emission; impotence; menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; deafness; tinnitus; water swelling; lumbar pain.
  • BL-31 上髎 〔上髎〕shàng liáo, Upper Bone-Hole
    Modern location: On the sacrum, in the first sacral foramen.
    Modern indications: Inhibited defecation and urination; menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus); seminal emission; impotence; lumbar pain.
  • BL-32 次髎 〔次髎〕cì liáo, Second Bone-Hole
    Modern location: On the sacrum, in the second sacral foramen.
    Modern indications: Mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; menstrual pain; inhibited urination; seminal emission; lumbar pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs.
  • BL-36 承扶 〔承扶〕chéng fú, Support
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the thigh, inferior to the ischial tuberosity, in the middle of the gluteal fold.
    Modern indications: Hemorrhoids; pain in lumbar, sacral, gluteal and femoral regions.
  • BL-38 浮郄 〔浮郄〕fú xī, Superficial Cleft
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the thigh, 1 cùn superior to the lateral end of the popliteal crease, on the medial side of the biceps femoris tendon.
    Modern indications: Constipation; pain or numbness and tingling in the thigh or the back of the knee (popliteal fossa).
  • BL-39 委阳 〔委陽〕wěi yáng, Bend Yáng
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the knee, at the lateral end of the popliteal crease, on the medial side of the biceps femoris tendon.
    Modern indications: Abdominal fullness; inhibited urination; pain and stiffness in the lumbar vertebrae; cramps of the leg and foot.
  • BL-40 委中 〔委中〕wěi zhōng, Bend Center
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the knee, at the midpoint of the popliteal crease.
    Modern indications: Lumbar pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; abdominal pain; vomiting and diarrhea; inhibited urination; enuresis; cinnabar toxin (dān dú).
  • BL-41 附分 〔附分〕fù fēn, Attached Branch
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the second thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Painful stiff neck and nape; pain and tension in the shoulder and back; numbness and tingling of the elbow and arm.
  • BL-42 魄户 〔魄戶〕pò hù, Corporeal Soul Door
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; stiff nape; pulmonary consumption (pulsmonary tubercolosis, TB); forgetfulness; seminal emission; nontransformation of grain (undigested food in the stool); pain in the shoulder and back.
  • BL-43 膏肓俞 〔膏肓俞〕gāo huāng shù, Gāo Huāng Transport
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the fourth thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; pulmonary consumption (TB); night sweating; forgetfulness; seminal emission; nontransformation of grain (undigested food in the stool).
  • BL-44 神堂 〔神堂〕shén táng, Spirit Hall
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the fifth thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Panting; cough; oppression in the chest; painful stiffness of the back.
  • BL-45 譩嘻 〔譩譆〕yī xǐ, Yī Xǐ
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the sixth thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; dysentery; febrile disease; shoulder and back pain.
  • BL-46 膈关 〔膈關〕gé guān, Diaphragm Pass
    Modern location: On the upper back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the seventh thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Oppression in the chest; vomiting and retching; belching; painful stiffness of the spinal column.
  • BL-47 魂门 〔魂門〕hún mén, Ethereal Soul Gate
    Modern location: On the back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the ninth thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Chest and rib-side pain; vomiting and retching; diarrhea; back pain.

    Modern location: On the back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the tenth thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Rumbling intestines; abdominal pain; diarrhea; jaundice; dispersion-thirst.
  • BL-49 意舍 〔意舍〕yì shè, Ideation Abode
    Modern location: On the back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the eleventh thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal distension; rumbling intestines; diarrhea; vomiting and retching.
  • BL-50 胃仓 〔胃倉〕wèi cāng, Stomach Granary
    Modern location: On the back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the twelfth thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal distension; pain in the stomach duct; food accumulation in infants; water swelling; pain in the spinal column.
  • BL-51 肓门 〔肓門〕huāng mén, Huāng Gate
    Modern location: On the lower back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; constipation; glomus lump; diseases of the breast.
  • BL-52 志室 〔志室〕zhì shì, Will Chamber
    Modern location: On the lower back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the second lumbar vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Seminal emission; impotence; inhibited urination; water swelling; painful stiffness of the back.
  • BL-53 胞肓 〔胞肓〕bāo huāng, Bladder Huang
    Modern location: On the buttocks, level with the second sacral foramen, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Rumbling intestines; abdominal distension; constipation; dribbling urinary block; back pain.
  • BL-54 秩边 〔秩邊〕zhì biān, Sequential Limit
    Modern location: On the buttocks, level with the sacrococcygeal joint, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Inhibited urination; constipation; hemorrhoids; lumbosacral pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs.
  • BL-55 合阳 〔合陽〕hé yáng, Yáng Union
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the lower leg, 2 cùn inferior to the center of the popliteal crease, between the two heads of the gastrocnemius muscle.
    Modern indications: Back pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia) of the lower limbs; flooding and spotting.
  • BL-56 承筋 〔承筋〕chéng jīn, Sinew Support
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the lower leg, midway between BL-55 and BL-57, between the two heads of the gastrocnemius muscle.
    Modern indications: Hemorrhoids; pain and hypertonicity of the lumbus and leg.
  • BL-57 承山 〔承山〕chéng shān, Mountain Support
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the lower leg, between the two heads of the gastrocnemius muscle at their lower extent.
    Modern indications: Hemorrhoids; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi): constipation; pain and hypertonicity in the lumbus and legs; hemorrhoids; constipation.
  • BL-58 飞扬 〔飛揚〕fēi yáng, Taking Flight
    Modern location: On the posterolateral aspect of the lower leg, 7 cùn superior to the tip of the lateral malleolus, on the lateral side of the Achilles tendon (t. calcaneus).
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; sniveling and nosebleed; lumbar and leg pain; hemorrhoids.
  • BL-59 跗阳 〔跗陽〕fū yáng, Instep Yáng
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the lower leg, 3 cùn superior to the tip of the lateral malleolus, midway between the Achilles tendon (t. calcaneus) and the posterior edge of the fibula.
    Modern indications: Headache; lumbosacral pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; painful swelling of the external malleolus; paralysis.
  • BL-60 昆仑 〔昆侖〕’, Kūnlún Mountains
    Modern location: At the ankle joint, midway between the lateral malleolus and the Achilles tendon (t. calcaneus), level with the tip of the malleolus.
    Modern indications: Headache; stiff nape; dizzy vision; nosebleed; epilepsy; difficult delivery; lumbosacral pain; heel pain.
  • BL-61 仆参 〔僕參〕pú cān, Subservient Visitor
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the heel, straight below BL-60, in a depression on the calcaneum at the border of the red and white flesh.
    Modern indications: Wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; heel pain; epilepsy.
  • BL-62 申脉 〔申脈〕shēn mài, Extending Vessel
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the foot, in the depression immediately inferior to the lateral malleolus.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizziness; epilepsy; mania and withdrawal; aching pain in the lumbus and legs; painful red eyes; pain in the lumbus and leg.
  • BL-63 金门 〔金門〕jīn mén, Metal Gate
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the foot, in the depression inferior and slightly posterior to the tuberosity of the cuboid bone.
    Modern indications: Headache; epilepsy; child fright wind; lumbar pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) in the lower limbs; pain in the external malleolus.
  • BL-64 京骨 〔京骨〕jīng gǔ, Capital Bone
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the foot, inferior to the tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal bone, at the border of the red and white flesh.
    Modern indications: Headache; stiff nape; eye screens; epilepsy; lumbar pain.
  • BL-65 束骨 〔束骨〕shù gǔ, Bundle Bone
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the foot, proximal to the head of the fifth metatarsal bone, at the border of the red and white flesh.
    Modern indications: Headache; stiff nape; dizzy vision; mania and withdrawal; pain in the lumbus and posterior aspect of the lower limbs.
  • BL-67 至阴 〔至陰〕zhì yīn, Reaching Yīn
    Modern location: A little more than 1 fēn below the base of the nail on the lateral aspect of the little toe.
    Modern indications: Headache; eye pain; nasal congestion; nosebleed; malposition of the fetus; difficult delivery.
