This is the Acupoints section of CMD, which presents 400 or so channel and nonchannel points with location, classical location, local anatomy, indications, traditional indications, needling depth, stimulus, and point groups they belong to, and the meanings of their Chinese names. Links to the Dictionary table are provided.

    • Click Channel to access information in the Dictionary about the channel of interest.
    • Click on Acupoints to see a preview list of all the points on the channel. Just click on the one that interests you.

Searches

  • First, select Headword only or Headword and Text depending on whether you wish to search in the heading of an entry/article or through the heading and the text below it.
  • Then, in the search box, enter alphanumeric codes (e.g., LU-1), unaccented Pīnyīn, simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese, or English (literal translation of the point name).
    Note that joined-up Pīnyīn can be used to search for headwords, but not the whole text.
  • After entering your search word(s), you will see the Search Results appear. You can select
    • Starting with to give you headwords that start with your search string or
    • Containing to give headwords that contain (or the text of which contains) your search string.
  • A filter box below Results allows you to insert another search string to narrow your search. So, for example, if your search string is blood vacuity, you can add headache in the filter box. To find all acupoints in which blood vacuity and headache both appear, either in the headword or headword and text, depending on which selection you have made.

  • The texts include copious links to the Dictionary table.
  • For those studying Chinese, each character of the Chinese headword is linked to the Terms table, where examples of its use can be found, together with links to stroke order animations.

ST, Foot Yáng Brightness (yáng míng) Stomach Channel Points

  • ST-1 承泣 〔承泣〕chéng qì, Tear Container
    Modern location: Between the eyeball and the midpoint of the infraorbital ridge.
    Modern indications: Painful red swollen eyes; tearing; night blindness; deviated eyes and mouth; twitching of the eyelids.
  • ST-2 四白 〔四白〕sì bái, Four Whites
    Modern location: On the face, straight below ST-1, over the small depression formed by the infraorbital foramen.
    Modern indications: Painful red itchy eyes; eye screen; deviated eyes and mouth; twitching of the eyelids; headache; dizziness.
  • ST-3 巨髎 〔巨髎〕jù liáo, Great Bone-Hole
    Modern location: On the cheek, straight below ST-2 (sì bái), level with the lower border of the ala nasi.
    Modern indications: Deviated eyes and mouth; twitching of the eyelids; nosebleed; toothache; swelling of the lips and cheek.
  • ST-4 地仓 〔地倉〕dì cāng, Earth Granary
    Modern location: On the face, on a vertical line with ST-1 (chéng qì), ST-2 (sì bái), and ST-3 (jù liáo), level with the corner of the mouth.
    Modern indications: Deviated mouth; drooling; twitching of the eyelids.
  • ST-5 大迎 〔大迎〕dà yíng, Great Reception
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the jaw, at the anterior border of the insertion of the masseter muscle on the body of the mandible.
    Modern indications: Clenched jaw; deviated mouth; swelling of the cheek; toothache.
  • ST-6 颊车 〔頰車〕jiá chē, Cheek Carriage
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the face, in the body of the masseter muscle, at the prominence of that muscle when the teeth are clenched.
    Modern indications: Deviated mouth; toothache; clenched jaw; welling of the cheeks.
  • ST-7 下关 〔下關〕xià guān, Below the Joint
    Modern location: Anterior to the ear, straight above ST-6, in the hollow immediately below the inferior border of the zygomatic arch.
    Modern indications: Deafness; tinnitus; purulent ear; toothache; clenched jaw; deviated eyes and mouth.
  • ST-8 头维 〔頭維〕tóu wéi, Head Corner
    Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, in a depression 0.5 cùn within the anterior hairline at the corner of the forehead.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; eye pain; tearing; twitching of the eyelids.
  • ST-9 人迎 〔人迎〕rén yíng, Man’s Prognosis
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the neck, level with the laryngeal prominence (adam's apple), at the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid (scm) muscle.
    Modern indications: Painful swollen throat; panting; scrofula; goiter; high blood pressure.
  • ST-10 水突 〔水突〕shuǐ tú, Water Prominence
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the neck, at the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid (scm) muscle, midway between ST-9 (rén yíng) and ST-11 (qì shè).
    Modern indications: Painful swollen throat; cough; panting.
  • ST-11 气舍 〔氣舍〕qì shè, Qì Abode
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the neck, immediately superior to the medial extremity of the clavicle, in the space between the sternal and clavicular heads of the (scm) sternocleidomastoid muscle.
    Modern indications: Painful swollen throat; panting; hiccup; goiter; stiff neck and nape.
  • ST-12 缺盆 〔缺盆〕quē pén, Empty Basin
    Modern location: At the midpoint of the supraclavicular fossa, 4 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; painful swollen throat; pain in the supraclavicular fossa; scrofula.
  • ST-13 气户 〔氣戶〕qì hù, Qì Door
    Modern location: On the chest, immediately below the inferior border of the clavicle, on the midclavicular line.
    Modern indications: Panting; cough; hiccup; propping fullness in the chest and rib-side; chest pain.
  • ST-14 库房 〔庫房〕kù fáng, Storeroom
    Modern location: On the chest, in the first intercostal space, on the midclavicular line.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; coughing and spitting of pus and blood; distension and pain in the chest and rib-side.
  • ST-15 屋翳 〔屋翳〕wū yì, Roof
    Modern location: On the chest, in the second intercostal space, on the midclavicular line.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; distension and pain in the chest and rib-side; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng).
  • ST-18 乳根 〔乳根〕rǔ gēn, Breast Root
    Modern location: On the chest, in the fifth intercostal space, on the midclavicular line.
    Modern indications: Cough; panting; hiccup; chest pain; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng); scant breast milk.
  • ST-19 不容 〔不容〕bù róng, Not Contained
    Modern location: On the upper abdomen, 6 cùn superior to the umbilicus and 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Vomiting and retching; stomach pain; poor appetite; abdominal distension.
  • ST-21 梁门 〔梁門〕liáng mén, Beam Gate
    Modern location: On the upper abdomen, 4 cùn superior to the umbilicus and 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Stomach pain; vomiting and retching; poor appetite; abdominal distension; diarrhea.
  • ST-22 关门 〔關門〕guān mén, Pass Gate
    Modern location: On the upper abdomen, 3 cùn superior to the umbilicus and 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal distension; abdominal pain; rumbling intestines and diarrhea; water swelling.
  • ST-25 天枢 〔天樞〕tiān shū, Celestial Pivot
    Modern location: On the abdomen, level with the center of the umbilicus, 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal distension; rumbling intestines; pain round the umbilicus; constipation; diarrhea; dysentery; menstrual irregularities; concretions and conglomerations.
  • ST-26 外陵 〔外陵〕wài líng, Outer Mound
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 1 cùn inferior to the umbilicus and 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); painful menstruation.
  • ST-27 大巨 〔大巨〕dà jù, Great Gigantic
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 2 cùn inferior to the umbilicus and 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Smaller abdominal distension and fullness; inhibited urination; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); seminal emission; premature ejaculation.
  • ST-28 水道 〔水道〕shuǐ dào, Waterway
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 3 cùn inferior to the umbilicus and 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Smaller abdominal distension and fullness; inhibited urination; urinary stoppage; menstrual pain; infertility; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia).
  • ST-29 归来 〔歸來〕guī lái, Return
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 4 cùn inferior to the umbilicus and 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus).
  • ST-30 气冲 〔氣衝〕qì chōng, Qì Thoroughfare
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, level with the superior border of the pubic bone, 2 cùn lateral to the midline.
    Modern indications: Rumbling intestines; abdominal pain; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); menstrual irregularities; infertility; impotence; swelling of the genitalia.
  • ST-31 髀关 〔髀關〕bì guān, Thigh Joint
    Modern location: On the upper thigh, straight below the anterior superior iliac spine (asis), in the depression on the lateral side of the sartorius muscle.
    Modern indications: Lumbar pain and cold knees; wilting-impediment (wěi bì); abdominal pain.
  • ST-32 伏兔 〔伏兔〕fú tù, Crouching Rabbit
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the thigh, 6 cùn proximal to the superior border of the patella, on the line that connects the anterior superior iliac spine (asis) and the lateral border of the patella.
    Modern indications: Lumbar pain and cold knees; paralysis of the lower limbs; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi).
  • ST-33 阴巿 〔陰巿〕yīn shì, Yīn Market
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the thigh, 3 cùn proximal to the superolateral corner of the patella, on the line that connects the anterior superior iliac spine (asis) and the lateral border of the patella.
    Modern indications: Wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the leg and knee inhibiting bending and stretching; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); abdominal pain; abdominal distension.
  • ST-34 梁丘 〔梁丘〕liáng qiū, Beam Hill
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the thigh, 2 cùn proximal to the superolateral corner of the patella, on the line that connects the anterior superior iliac spine (asis) and the lateral border of the patella.
    Modern indications: Painful swelling of the knee; paralysis of the lower limbs; stomach pain; stomach pain; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng); bloody urine.
  • ST-35 犊鼻 〔犢鼻〕dú bí, Calf’s Nose
    Modern location: At the knee, level with the inferior border of the patella, in the depression lateral to the patellar ligament.
    Modern indications: Knee pain; paralysis of the lower limb with inhibited bending and stretching; leg qì (jiǎo qì).
  • ST-36 足三里 〔足三里〕zú sān lǐ, Leg Three Lǐ
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the lower leg, 3 cùn inferior to ST-35, about one fingerbreadth lateral to the tibia.
    Modern indications: Stomach pain; vomiting and retching; dysphagia-occlusion (yē gé); abdominal distension; diarrhea; dysentery; constipation; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng); intestinal welling-abscess (cháng yōng); paralysis of the lower limbs; water swelling; mania and withdrawal; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi); vacuity taxation with marked emaciation.
  • ST-37 上巨虚 〔上巨虛〕shàng jù xū, Upper Great Hollow
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the lower leg, 6 cùn inferior to ST-35, about one fingerbreadth lateral to the crest of the tibia.
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; rumbling intestines; diarrhea; constipation; intestinal welling-abscess (cháng yōng); paralysis of the lower limbs; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi).
  • ST-38 条口 〔條口〕tiáo kǒu, Ribbon Opening
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the lower leg, 8 cùn inferior to ST-35 (dú bí), slightly lateral to the crest of the tibia.
    Modern indications: Stomach pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; shoulder pain; leg cramps; swelling of the dorsum of the foot; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi).
  • ST-39 下巨虚 〔下巨虛〕xià jù xū, Lower Great Hollow
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the lower leg, 9 cùn inferior to ST-35 (dú bí), about one fingerbreadth lateral to the crest of the tibia.
    Modern indications: Smaller abdominal pain ; diarrhea; dysentery; lumbar pain; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng); wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; lumbar pain stretching into the testicles.
  • ST-40 丰隆 〔豐隆〕fēng lóng, Bountiful Bulge
    Modern location: On the lower leg, 8 cùn inferior to ST-35 (dú bí), about 1 cùn lateral to ST-38 (tiáo kǒu).
    Modern indications: Headache; dizziness; cough with copious phlegm; vomiting and retching; constipation; water swelling; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; mania and withdrawal; epilepsy.
  • ST-41 解溪 〔解谿〕jiě xī, Ravine Divide
    Modern location: On the anterior aspect of the ankle joint, level with the tip of the lateral malleolus, in the space between the tendons of the extensor digitorum longus and the extensor hallucis longus muscles.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizziness; mania and withdrawal; abdominal distension; constipation; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs.
  • ST-42 冲阳 〔衝陽〕chōng yáng, Surging Yáng
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the foot, about 1.5 cùn distal to ST-41, on the medial side of the common extensor tendon that attaches to the second toe.
    Modern indications: Deviated mouth; toothache; facial swelling; stomach pain; mania and withdrawal; epilepsy; wilting (wěi) of the feet.
  • ST-43 陷谷 〔陷谷〕xiàn gǔ, Sunken Valley
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the foot, in the space between the second and third metatarsal bones, slightly distal to their tarsometatarsal articulations.
    Modern indications: Puffy swelling of the face; painful red swollen eyes; rumbling intestines and abdominal pain; painful swelling of the dorsum of the foot.
  • ST-44 内庭 〔內庭〕nèi tíng, Inner Court
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the foot, proximal to the margin of the web between the second and third toes, level with the metatarsophalangeal (mtp) articulation of the second toe.
    Modern indications: Toothache; painful swollen throat; deviated mouth; nosebleed; stomach pain and acid vomiting; abdominal distension; diarrhea and dysentery; constipation; febrile disease; painful swelling of the dorsum of the foot; febrile disease.
  • ST-45 厉兑 〔厲兌〕lì duì, Severe Mouth
    Modern location: A little more than 1 fēn below the base of the nail on the lateral side of the second toe.
    Modern indications: Sniveling and nosebleed; toothache; painful swelling of the throat; abdominal distension; febrile disease; main and withdrawal; painful swelling of the dorsum of the foot.
