This is the Acupoints section of CMD, which presents 400 or so channel and nonchannel points with location, classical location, local anatomy, indications, traditional indications, needling depth, stimulus, and point groups they belong to, and the meanings of their Chinese names. Links to the Dictionary table are provided.

- Click Channel to access information in the Dictionary about the channel of interest.
- Click on Acupoints to see a preview list of all the points on the channel. Just click on the one that interests you.

Searches
- First, select Headword only or Headword and Text depending on whether you wish to search in the heading of an entry/article or through the heading and the text below it.
- Then, in the search box, enter alphanumeric codes (e.g., LU-1), unaccented Pīnyīn, simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese, or English (literal translation of the point name).
Note that joined-up Pīnyīn can be used to search for headwords, but not the whole text. - After entering your search word(s), you will see the Search Results appear. You can select
- Starting with to give you headwords that start with your search string or
- Containing to give headwords that contain (or the text of which contains) your search string.
- A filter box below Results allows you to insert another search string to narrow your search. So, for example, if your search string is
blood vacuity,
you can addheadache
in the filter box. To find all acupoints in whichblood vacuity
andheadache
both appear, either in the headword or headword and text, depending on which selection you have made.

- The texts include copious links to the Dictionary table.
- For those studying Chinese, each character of the Chinese headword is linked to the Terms table, where examples of its use can be found, together with links to stroke order animations.

Nonchannel Points
- M-BW-1 定喘 〔定喘〕dìng chuǎn, Panting Stabilizer
Modern location: On the upper back, 1 cùn lateral to the inferior border of the spinous process of the seventh cervical vertebra (GV-14 ).
Modern indications:Cough , asthma; bronchitis; urticaria, pain in the shoulder and back.
- M-BW-12 胃管下俞 〔胃管下俞〕wèi guǎn xià shū, Below the Stomach Duct
Modern location: In the middle of the back, 1.5 cùn lateral to the inferior border of the spinous of the eighth thoracic vertebra.
Modern indications:Dispersion-thirst ; gastric pain; pancreatitis;rib-side pain ;cough ;dry pharynx ;retching counterflow ;abdominal pain .
- M-BW-16 痞根 〔痞根〕pǐ gēn, Glomus Root
Modern location: On the lower back, 3.5 cùn lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra.
Modern indications:Glomus lump (specifically hepatosplenomegaly);diarrhea ; hernia;lumbar pain ;stomach pain .
- M-BW-24 腰眼 〔腰眼〕yāo yǎn, Lumbar Eye
Modern location: On the lower back, in the dimple below the iliac crest, about 3.5 cùn lateral to the fourth lumbar vertebra.
Modern indications: Pulmonary tuberculosis;frequent urination ;dispersion-thirst ;menstrual irregularities ; women's diseases;lumbar pain .
- M-BW-25 十七椎穴 〔十七椎穴〕shí qī zhuī xuè, Seventeenth Vertebra Point
Modern location: On the lower back, inferior to the spinous process of the fifth lumbar vertebra (i.e., at the lumbosacral joint).
Modern indications:Lumbar pain ; sciatica;shifted bladder ;menstrual pain ;flooding and spotting ;enuresis .
- M-BW-29 腰奇 〔腰奇〕yāo qí, Lumbar Extra
Modern location: On the sacrum, 2 cùn above the tip of the coccyx on the midline.
Modern indications:Epilepsy ;headache ;insomnia ;constipation .
- M-BW-34 环中 〔環中〕huán zhōng, In the Round
Modern location: On the buttocks, one third of the distance from the sacrococcygeal joint to the greater trochanter, midway between GV-2 (yāo shù) and GB-30 (huán tiào).
Modern indications:Lumbar pain ; sciatica.
- M-BW-35 夹脊 〔夾脊〕jiá jí, Paravertebrals
Modern location: In a line on either side of the spine, 0.5 cùn lateral to the inferior border of the spinous processes of the first cervical to the fifth lumbar vertebrae. There are 24 points on each side.
Modern indications: The cervical paravertebrals are indicated for disorders of the head, neck and upper limbs. The indications for the thoracic and lumbar paravertebrals are similar to those of the back transport points. The paravertebral points on the upper back are used for disorders of the lower abdomen, kidney, intestines, bladder and lower limbs.
- M-CA-18 子宫 〔子宮〕zǐ gōng, Infant’s Palace
Modern location: On the lower abdomen, 4 cùn inferior to the level of the umbilicus and 3 cùn lateral to the midline.
Modern indications:Prolapse of the uterus ;menstrual irregularities ;menstrual pain ;flooding and spotting ;infertility ; eclampsia; pain due to hernia; orchitis.
- M-CA-23 三角灸 〔三角灸〕sān jiǎo jiǔ, Moxibustion Triangle
Modern location: On the lower abdomen, at the lower angles of an equilateral triangle with the apex at the navel and each of its sides as long as the width of the patient's mouth.
Modern indications: Hernia;pain in the umbilical region ;infertility .
- M-HN-1 四神聪 〔四神聰〕sì shén cōng, Alert Spirit Quartet
Modern location: A group of acupoints located on the superior aspect of the head, 1 cùn in front of, behind and on either side of GV-20 (bǎi huì).
Modern indications:Wind stroke hemiplegia ;headache ;dizziness ;insomnia ;forgetfulness ;epilepsy ; mental disorders.
- M-HN-3 印堂 〔印堂〕yìn táng, Hall of Impression
Modern location: Between the eyebrows, on the anterior midline at the center of the glabella.
Modern indications: Infantilefright wind ; high blood pressure; frontalheadache ;heavy-headedness ;nosebleed ;deep-source nasal congestion ;insomnia .
- M-HN-6 鱼腰 〔魚腰〕yú yāo, Fish’s Lumbus
Modern location: In the middle of the eyebrow. When the eye looks straight ahead the point is vertically in line with the pupil.
Modern indications: Painful, red, swollen eyes; drooping eyelid; supraorbital neuralgia; cloudiness of the cornea.
- M-HN-8 球后 〔球後〕qiú hòu, Back of the Ball
Modern location: Between the eyeball and the infraorbital ridge, halfway between the midpoint of the infraorbital ridge (ST-1 ) and the outer canthus.
Modern indications: Inflammation or atrophy of the optic nerve; pigmentary degeneration of the retina; glaucoma; early stages of cataracts;nearsightedness in young people.
- M-HN-9 太阳 〔太陽〕tài yáng, Tài Yáng
Modern location: In the depression on the temple 1 cùn posterior to a point midway between the lateral end of the eyebrow and the outer canthus.
Modern indications:Headache ;deviated eyes and mouth ; trigeminal neuralgia; atrophy of the optic nerve; retinalbleeding ;dry eyes ; pain, redness and swelling of the eyes.
- M-HN-10 耳尖 〔耳尖〕ěr jiān, Tip of the Ear
Modern location: At the apex of the ear.
Modern indications:Eye screen s; acute conjunctivitis; redness, swelling and pain of the eyes;high fever .
