This is the Acupoints section of CMD, which presents 400 or so channel and nonchannel points with location, classical location, local anatomy, indications, traditional indications, needling depth, stimulus, and point groups they belong to, and the meanings of their Chinese names. Links to the Dictionary table are provided.

- Click Channel to access information in the Dictionary about the channel of interest.
- Click on Acupoints to see a preview list of all the points on the channel. Just click on the one that interests you.

Searches
- First, select Headword only or Headword and Text depending on whether you wish to search in the heading of an entry/article or through the heading and the text below it.
- Then, in the search box, enter alphanumeric codes (e.g., LU-1), unaccented Pīnyīn, simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese, or English (literal translation of the point name).
Note that joined-up Pīnyīn can be used to search for headwords, but not the whole text. - After entering your search word(s), you will see the Search Results appear. You can select
- Starting with to give you headwords that start with your search string or
- Containing to give headwords that contain (or the text of which contains) your search string.
- A filter box below Results allows you to insert another search string to narrow your search. So, for example, if your search string is
blood vacuity,
you can addheadache
in the filter box. To find all acupoints in whichblood vacuity
andheadache
both appear, either in the headword or headword and text, depending on which selection you have made.

- The texts include copious links to the Dictionary table.
- For those studying Chinese, each character of the Chinese headword is linked to the Terms table, where examples of its use can be found, together with links to stroke order animations.

GV, Governing (dū) Vessel Points
- GV-1 长强 〔長強〕cháng qiáng, Long Strong
Modern location: In the anal cleft, midway between the tip of the coccyx and the anus.
Modern indications:Diarrhea ;bloody stool ;constipation ;hemorrhoids ;prolapse of the rectum .
- GV-2 腰俞 〔腰俞〕yāo shù, Lumbar Transport
Modern location: On the posterior midline, at the sacrococcygeal joint.
Modern indications:Menstrual irregularities ;hemorrhoids ;lumbar pain and stiffness ;wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs;epilepsy .
- GV-3 腰阳关 〔腰陽關〕yāo yáng guān, Lumbar Yáng Pass
Modern location: On the lower back, inferior to the spinous process of the fourth lumbar vertebra.
Modern indications:Menstrual irregularities ;seminal emission ;impotence ;lumbosacral pain ;wilting-impediment (wěi bì) lower limbs.
- GV-4 命门 〔命門〕mìng mén, Life Gate
Modern location: On the lower back, inferior to the spinous process of the second lumbar vertebra.
Modern indications:Impotence ;seminal emission ;vaginal discharge ;menstrual irregularities ;diarrhea ;stiffness in the lumbar spine .
- GV-5 悬枢 〔懸樞〕xuán shū, Suspended Pivot
Modern location: On the lower back, inferior to the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra.
Modern indications:Diarrhea ;abdominal pain ;painful stiffness of the lumbar spine .
- GV-6 脊中 〔脊中〕jǐ zhōng, Spinal Center
Modern location: On the upper back, inferior to the spinous process of the eleventh thoracic vertebra.
Modern indications:Diarrhea ;jaundice ;hemorrhoids ;epilepsy ; infantgān accumulation ;prolapse of the rectum .
- GV-7 中枢 〔中樞〕zhōng shū, Central Pivot
Modern location: On the upper back, inferior to the spinous process of the tenth thoracic vertebra.
Modern indications:Jaundice ;vomiting and retching ;abdominal fullness ;stiffness and stiffness of the spinal column .
- GV-8 筋缩 〔筋縮〕jīn suō, Sinew Contraction
Modern location: On the upper back, inferior to the spinous process of the ninth thoracic vertebra.
Modern indications:Epilepsy ; stiffness of the spinal column;stomach pain .
- GV-9 至阳 〔至陽〕zhì yáng, Extremity of Yáng
Modern location: On the upper back, inferior to the spinous process of the seventh thoracic vertebra.
Modern indications:Jaundice ;distension and ;fullness in the chest and rib-sidecough ;panting ;back pain ; stiffness of the spinal column.
- GV-10 灵台 〔靈台〕líng tái, Spirit Tower
Modern location: On the upper back, inferior to the spinous process of the sixth thoracic vertebra.
Modern indications:Cough ;panting ;clove sore s (dīng chuāng);pain and stiffness in the spine .
- GV-11 神道 〔神道〕shén dào, Spirit Path
Modern location: On the upper back, inferior to the spinous process of the fifth thoracic vertebra.
Modern indications:Heart palpitation ;forgetfulness ;cough ;heart pain ; painful stiffness in the back and spinal column.
- GV-12 身柱 〔身柱〕shēn zhù, Body Pillar
Modern location: On the upper back, inferior to the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra.
Modern indications:Cough ;panting ;epilepsy ; painful stiffness of the lumbar spine.
- GV-13 陶道 〔陶道〕táo dào, Kiln Path
Modern location: On the upper back, inferior to the spinous process of the first thoracic vertebra.
Modern indications:Headache ;malarial disease ;febrile disease ; stiffness of the spinal column.
- GV-14 大椎 〔大椎〕dà zhuī, Great Hammer
Modern location: On the upper back, inferior to the spinous process of the seventh cervical vertebra.
Modern indications:Febrile disease ;malarial disease ;cough ;panting ;steaming bone tidal heat effusion ;epilepsy ;headache andstiff nape ;wind papules .
- GV-15 哑门 〔啞門〕yǎ mén, Mute’s Gate
Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the neck, 0.5 cùn above the posterior hairline and 0.5 cùn belowGV-16 , on the midline.
Modern indications:Fulminant loss of voice ;stiff tongue preventing speech (wind stroke );mania and withdrawal ;epilepsy ;headache andstiff nape .
- GV-16 风府 〔風府〕fēng fǔ, Wind House
Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the neck, immediately inferior to the occipital bone on the midline.
Modern indications:Headache ;stiff nape ;dizzy vision ;painful swollen throat ;loss of voice ;mania and withdrawal ;wind stroke .
- GV-17 脑户 〔腦戶〕nǎo hù, Brain’s Door
Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the head, immediately superior to the external occipital protuberance (eop), 1.5 cùn above the occipital ridge, on the midline.
Modern indications:Dizzy head ;stiff nape ;loss of voice ;epilepsy .
- GV-18 强间 〔強間〕qiáng jiān, Unyielding Space
Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the head, 1.5 cùn above the superior border of the external occipital protuberance (eop) on the midline.
Modern indications:Headache ;dizzy vision ;stiff nape ;mania and withdrawal .
- GV-19 后顶 〔後頂〕hòu dǐng, Behind the Vertex
Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the head, 3 cùn above the superior border of the external occipital protuberance (eop) on the midline.
Modern indications:Headache ;dizziness ;mania and withdrawal ;epilepsy .
- GV-20 百会 〔百會〕bǎi huì, Hundred Convergences
Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, 7 cùn above the posterior hairline and 5 cùn behind the anterior hairline on the midline.
Modern indications:Headache ;dizziness ; loss of speechwind stroke ;tinnitus ;mania and withdrawal ;prolapse of the rectum ;yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus ).
- GV-21 前顶 〔前頂〕qián dǐng, Before the Vertex
Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, 3.5 cùn within the anterior hairline on the midline.
Modern indications:Headache ;dizziness ;deep-source nasal congestion ;epilepsy .
- GV-22 囟会 〔囟會〕xìn huì, Fontanel Meeting
Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, 2 cùn within the anterior hairline on the midline.
Modern indications:Headache ;dizzy vision ;deep-source nasal congestion ;epilepsy .
- GV-23 上星 〔上星〕shàng xīng, Upper Star
Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, 1 cùn within the anterior hairline on the midline.
Modern indications:Headache ;eye pain ;deep-source nasal congestion ;nosebleed ;mania and withdrawal ;malarial disease ;febrile disease .
- GV-24 神庭 〔神庭〕shén tíng, Spirit Court
Modern location: On the superior aspect of the head, 0.5 cùn within the anterior hairline on the midline.
Modern indications:Headache ;dizzy vision ;insomnia ;deep-source nasal congestion ;epilepsy .
- GV-25 素髎 〔素髎〕sù liáo, White Bone-Hole
Modern location: At the very tip of the nose.
Modern indications:Nasal congestion ;nosebleed ;clouded spirit ;clouding reversal ;suffocation in newborns .
- GV-26 水沟 〔水溝〕shuǐ gōu, Water Trough
Modern location: Superior to the upper lip, in the philtrum, one third of the distance from the base of the nasal septum to the red skin of the upper lip on the midline.
Modern indications:Mania and withdrawal ;epilepsy ; childfright wind ;clouded spirit ;deviated eyes and mouth ;painful stiffness of the lumbar spine .
- GV-27 兑端 〔兌端〕duì duān, Extremity of the Mouth
Modern location: On the upper lip, at the junction of the philtrum and the red skin of the lip on the midline.
Modern indications:Mania and withdrawal ;painful swollen gums ;deviated mouth ;sniveling and nosebleed .
- GV-28 龈交 〔齦交〕yín jiāo, Gum Intersection
Modern location: Under the upper lip, on the maxillary gum immediately below the attachment of the frenulum.
Modern indications:Mania and withdrawal ;painful swelling of the gums ;deep-source nasal congestion .
