This is the Acupoints section of CMD, which presents 400 or so channel and nonchannel points with location, classical location, local anatomy, indications, traditional indications, needling depth, stimulus, and point groups they belong to, and the meanings of their Chinese names. Links to the Dictionary table are provided.

    • Click Channel to access information in the Dictionary about the channel of interest.
    • Click on Acupoints to see a preview list of all the points on the channel. Just click on the one that interests you.

Searches

  • First, select Headword only or Headword and Text depending on whether you wish to search in the heading of an entry/article or through the heading and the text below it.
  • Then, in the search box, enter alphanumeric codes (e.g., LU-1), unaccented Pīnyīn, simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese, or English (literal translation of the point name).
    Note that joined-up Pīnyīn can be used to search for headwords, but not the whole text.
  • After entering your search word(s), you will see the Search Results appear. You can select
    • Starting with to give you headwords that start with your search string or
    • Containing to give headwords that contain (or the text of which contains) your search string.
  • A filter box below Results allows you to insert another search string to narrow your search. So, for example, if your search string is blood vacuity, you can add headache in the filter box. To find all acupoints in which blood vacuity and headache both appear, either in the headword or headword and text, depending on which selection you have made.

  • The texts include copious links to the Dictionary table.
  • For those studying Chinese, each character of the Chinese headword is linked to the Terms table, where examples of its use can be found, together with links to stroke order animations.

LR, Foot Reverting Yīn (jué yīn) Liver Channel Points

  • LR-1 大敦 〔大敦〕dà dūn, Large Pile
    Modern location: Midway between a little more than 1 fēn below the base of the nail and the interphalangeal joint on the lateral side of the big toe.
    Modern indications: Mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); enuresis; flooding and spotting; amenorrhea; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus); epilepsy.
  • LR-2 行间 〔行間〕xíng jiān, Moving Between
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the foot, proximal to the margin of the web between the first and second toes, level with the metatarsophalangeal (mtp) articulation of the first toe.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; painful red swollen eyes; clear-eye blindness; deviated mouth; rib-side pain; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); inhibited urination; flooding and spotting; menstrual pain; vaginal discharge; epilepsy; wind stroke.
  • LR-3 太冲 〔太衝〕tài chōng, Supreme Surge
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the foot, in the space between the first and second metatarsal bones, slightly distal to their tarsometatarsal articulations.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; painful red swollen eyes; deviated mouth; rib-side; enuresis; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); flooding and spotting; menstrual irregularities; epilepsy; retching counterflow; child fright wind; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs.
  • LR-4 中封 〔中封〕zhōng fēng, Mound Center
    Modern location: At the ankle joint, about 1 cùn anterior to the medial malleolus, in the depression on the medial side of the tibialis anterior tendon.
    Modern indications: Mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); seminal emission; inhibited urination; abdominal pain.
  • LR-5 蠡沟 〔蠡溝〕lǐ gōu, Woodworm Canal
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the lower leg, 5 cùn superior to the tip of the medial malleolus, in a small groove or dishlike depression on the tibia.
    Modern indications: Inhibited urination; enuresis; menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs.
  • LR-6 中都 〔中都〕zhōng dū, Central Metropolis
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the lower leg, 7 cùn superior to the tip of the medial malleolus, in a small groove or dishlike depression on the tibia.
    Modern indications: Mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); flooding and spotting; abdominal pain; diarrhea; incessant flow of the lochia.
  • LR-7 膝关 〔膝關〕xī guān, Knee Joint
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the lower leg, below the inferior border of the medial condyle of the tibia, in the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle, 1 cùn posterior to SP-9.
    Modern indications: Painful swelling of the knee.
  • LR-8 曲泉 〔曲泉〕qū quán, Spring at the Bend
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the knee, in the hollow that forms proximal to the medial condyle of the tibia when the knee is bent about ninety degrees. the point is between the medial hamstring tendons and the medial condyle of the femur.
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; inhibited urination; seminal emission; pudendal itch; seminal emission; knee pain; menstrual irregularities; menstrual pain; vaginal discharge.
  • LR-9 阴包 〔陰包〕yīn bāo, Yīn Bladder
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the lower thigh, 4 cùn superior to the medial epicondyle of the femur, between the vastus medialis and the sartorius muscles.
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; enuresis; inhibited urination; menstrual irregularities.
  • LR-10 足五里 〔足五里〕zú wǔ lǐ, Foot Five Lǐ
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the upper thigh, 3 cùn inferior to the level of ST-30, on the anterior border of the adductor longus muscle.
    Modern indications: Smaller abdominal distension; urinary stoppage; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus); painful swollen testicles; hypersomnia; scrofula.
  • LR-11 阴廉 〔陰廉〕yīn lián, Yīn Corner
    Modern location: On the medial aspect of the upper thigh, 2 cùn inferior to ST-30, on the anterior border of the adductor longus muscle.
    Modern indications: Menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; smaller abdominal pain .
  • LR-12 急脉 〔急脈〕jí mài, Urgent Pulse
    Modern location: In the groin, 0.5 cùn lateral and slightly inferior to ST-30.
    Modern indications: Smaller abdominal pain ; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus).
  • LR-13 章门 〔章門〕zhāng mén, Camphorwood Gate
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the abdomen, approximately on the midaxillary line, immediately below the tip of the eleventh rib.
    Modern indications: Abdominal distension; diarrhea; rib-side pain; glomus lump.
  • LR-14 期门 〔期門〕qī mén, Cycle Gate
    Modern location: On the chest, in the sixth intercostal space, on the midclavicular line.
    Modern indications: Distension and pain in the chest and rib-side; abdominal distension; vomiting and retching; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng).
