This is the Acupoints section of CMD, which presents 400 or so channel and nonchannel points with location, classical location, local anatomy, indications, traditional indications, needling depth, stimulus, and point groups they belong to, and the meanings of their Chinese names. Links to the Dictionary table are provided.

Searches

  • First, select Headword only or Headword and Text depending on whether you wish to search in the heading of an entry/article or through the heading and the text below it.
  • Then, in the search box, enter alphanumeric codes (e.g., LU-1), unaccented Pīnyīn, simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese, or English (literal translation of the point name).
    Note that joined-up Pīnyīn can be used to search for headwords, but not the whole text.
  • After entering your search word(s), you will see the Search Results appear. You can select
    • Starting with to give you headwords that start with your search string or
    • Containing to give headwords that contain (or the text of which contains) your search string.
  • A filter box below Results allows you to insert another search string to narrow your search. So, for example, if your search string is blood vacuity, you can add headache in the filter box. To find all acupoints in which blood vacuity and headache both appear, either in the headword or headword and text, depending on which selection you have made.

GB, Foot Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Gallbladder Channel Points

  • GB-3 上关 〔上關〕shàng guān, Upper Gate
    Modern location: Anterior to the ear, on the superior border of the zygomatic arch, directly above ST-7.
    Modern indications: Hemilateral headache; deafness; tinnitus; toothache; deviated eyes and mouth; clenched jaw.
  • GB-4 颔厌 〔頷厭〕hàn yàn, Forehead Fullness
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the head, slightly posterior to the temporal hairline, one quarter of the distance from ST-8 to GB-7 along a line connecting these two points.
    Modern indications: Hemilateral headache; dizzy vision; toothache; epilepsy; pain in the outer canthus.
  • GB-5 悬颅 〔懸顱〕xuán lú, Suspended Skull
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the head, slightly posterior to the temporal hairline, midway between ST-8 and GB-7 along a line connecting these two points.
    Modern indications: Hemilateral headache; painful red swollen eyes; toothache; pain in the outer canthus.
  • GB-6 悬厘 〔懸厘〕xuán lí, Suspended Tuft
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the head, slightly posterior to the temporal hairline, three quarters of the distance from ST-8 (tóu wéi) to GB-7 (jiǎo sūn) along the line connecting these two points.
    Modern indications: Hemilateral headache; painful red swollen eyes; toothache; pain in the outer canthus.
  • GB-7 曲鬓 〔曲鬢〕qū bìn, Temporal Hairline Curve
    Modern location: In the temporal region, at the intersection of a line drawn upward from the posterior margin of the preauricular hairline (i.e., the posterior margin of the sideburn) and a horizontal line drawn just above the top of the ear.
    Modern indications: Headache; toothache; clenched jaw; fulminant loss of voice; pain in the temporal region; swelling of the cheek and submandibular region.
  • GB-8 率谷 〔率谷〕shuài gǔ, Valley Lead
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the head, about 1.5 cùn superior to the apex of the ear.
    Modern indications: Hemilateral headache; dizziness: child acute fright wind and chronic fright wind.
  • GB-9 天冲 〔天衝〕tiān chōng, Celestial Hub
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the head, at a level about 1.5 cùn superior to the apex of the ear, on the vertical line defined by the posterior margin of the auricle.
    Modern indications: Headache; painful swollen gums; epilepsy.
  • GB-10 浮白 〔浮白〕fú bái, Floating White
    Modern location: Posterior to the ear, in the depression about one third of the distance from GB-9 (tiān chōng) to GB-12 (wán gǔ) on a line connecting these two points.
    Modern indications: Headache; tinnitus; deafness; eye pain; goiter.
  • GB-12 完骨 〔完骨〕wán gǔ, Completion Bone
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the neck, just inferior to the posterior border of the mastoid process.
    Modern indications: Headache; painful stiffness in the neck; toothache; deviated eyes and mouth; malarial disease; epilepsy.
  • GB-13 本神 〔本神〕běn shén, Root Spirit
    Modern location: On the superolateral aspect of the head, 0.5 cùn within the anterior hairline, one third of the distance from ST-8 to the midline (i.e., GV-24).
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; epilepsy; child fright wind.
  • GB-15 头临泣 〔頭臨泣〕tóu lín qì, Head Overlooking Tears
    Modern location: On the superolateral aspect of the head, 0.5 cùn within the anterior hairline, straight above GB-14 (yáng bái), midway between GV-24 (shén tíng) and ST-8 (tóu wéi).
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; tearing; nasal congestion; child fright epilepsy.
  • GB-16 目窗 〔目窗〕mù chuāng, Eye Window
    Modern location: On the superolateral aspect of the head, 2.0 cùn within the anterior hairline on the line connecting GB-15 (tóu lín qí) and GB-20 (fēng chí).
    Modern indications: Headache; painful red swollen eyes; clear-eye blindness; nasal congestion; epilepsy; painful swelling of the face.
  • GB-18 承灵 〔承靈〕chéng líng, Spirit Support
    Modern location: On the superolateral aspect of the head, 5.0 cùn within the anterior hairline on the line connecting GB-15 (tóu lín qí) and GB-20 (fēng chí).
    Modern indications: Headache; dizziness; nasal congestion; sniveling nose; nosebleed.
  • GB-19 脑空 〔腦空〕nǎo kōng, Brain Hollow
    Modern location: On the back of the head, in a sizable depression lateral to the external occipital protuberance (eop), directly above GB-20 (fēng chí).
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; mania and withdrawal; epilepsy; painful stiffness of the neck and nape.
  • GB-20 风池 〔風池〕fēng chí, Wind Pool
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the neck, below the occipital bone, in the large depression between the trapezius and the sternocleidomastoid muscles.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; painful red swollen eyes; deep-source nasal congestion; snivelingand nosebleed; tinnitus; painful stiffness of the neck and nape; common cold; epilepsy; wind stroke; goiter; febrile disease; malarial disease; goiter.
  • GB-21 肩井 〔肩井〕jiān jǐng, Shoulder Well
    Modern location: On the superior aspect of the shoulder, midway between the seventh cervical vertebra and the high point of the acromioclavicular articulation.
    Modern indications: Headache and stiff nape; shoulder and back pain; inability to move the arm; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng); breast milk stoppage; difficult delivery; scrofula.
  • GB-22 渊腋 〔淵腋〕yuān yè, Armpit Abyss
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the chest, 3 cùn inferior to the base of the axilla on the midaxillary line.
    Modern indications: Fullness in the chest; rib-side pain; impediment pain (bì tòng) in the upper limbs.
  • GB-23 辄筋 〔輒筋〕zhé jīn, Sinew Seat
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the chest, 1 cùn anterior and slightly inferior to GB-22 (yuān yè).
    Modern indications: Fullness in the chest; rib-side pain; panting; vomiting; acid swallowing.
  • GB-24 日月 〔日月〕rì yuè, Sun and Moon
    Modern location: On the chest, in the seventh intercostal space, as close to the midclavicular line as the costal cartilage will allow.
    Modern indications: Vomiting and retching; acid swallowing; pain in the chest and rib-side; jaundice.
  • GB-25 京门 〔京門〕jīng mén, Capital Gate
    Modern location: On the lower back, at the inferior border of the tip of the twelfth rib.
    Modern indications: Inhibited urination; water swelling; lumbar pain; rib-side pain; abdominal distension; diarrhea.
  • GB-26 带脉 〔帶脈〕dài mài, Girdling Vessel
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the abdomen, straight below to the tip of the 11th rib (LR-13) at the level of the umbilicus.
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; amenorrhea; menstrual irregularities; vaginal discharge; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); lumbar and rib-side pain.
  • GB-27 五枢 〔五樞〕wǔ shū, Fifth Pivot
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 3 cùn inferior to the level of the umbilicus, medially adjacent to the anterior superior iliac spine (asis).
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); vaginal discharge; constipation; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus).
  • GB-28 维道 〔維道〕wéi dào, Linking Path
    Modern location: On the smaller abdomen, 0.5 cùn inferior and slightly medial to GB-27, at the inferior border of the anterior superior iliac spine (asis), or the top of the groin .
    Modern indications: Abdominal pain; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia); vaginal discharge; yīn protrusion (prolapse of the uterus).
  • GB-29 居髎 〔居髎〕jū liáo, Squatting Bone-Hole
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the hip, in the body of the tensor fascia lata muscle, midway between the anterior superior iliac spine (asis) and the prominence of the greater trochanter.
    Modern indications: Lumbar pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia).
  • GB-30 环跳 〔環跳〕huán tiào, Jumping Round
    Modern location: In the hollow of the buttocks, one third of the distance from the prominence of the greater trochanter to the sacrococcygeal joint.
    Modern indications: Wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; lumbar pain.
  • GB-31 风市 〔風巿〕fēng shì, Wind Market
    Modern location: On the midline of the lateral aspect of the thigh, 7 cùn superior to the level of the popliteal crease, in the vastus lateralis muscle at the anterior edge of the iliotibial tract.
    Modern indications: Wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; generalized itching; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi).
  • GB-32 中渎 〔中瀆〕zhōng dú, Central River
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the thigh, 5 cùn superior to the level of the popliteal crease, in the vastus lateralis muscle, between the posterior edge of the iliotibial tract and the biceps femoris muscle.
    Modern indications: Wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs.
  • GB-33 膝阳关 〔膝陽關〕xī yáng guān, Knee Yáng Joint
    Modern location: On the lateral side of the knee, in the space that forms proximal to the lateral condyle of the tibia when the knee is bent about ninety degrees. the depression is superior to the biceps femoris tendon and inferior to the lateral condyle of the femur.
    Modern indications: Painful swelling of the knee; hypertonicity of the popliteal sinews; numbness and tingling of the lower leg.
  • GB-34 阳陵泉 〔陽陵泉〕yáng líng quán, Yáng Mound Spring
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the lower leg, in the depression immediately anterior and inferior to the head of the fibula.
    Modern indications: Rib-side pain; bitter taste in the mouth; vomiting and retching; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi); jaundice; child fright wind.
  • GB-35 阳交 〔陽交〕yáng jiāo, Yáng Intersection
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the lower leg, 7 cùn superior to the tip of the lateral malleolus, on the posterior edge of the peroneus longus muscle in the groove between the peroneus and the soleus muscles.
    Modern indications: Distension and fullness in the chest and rib-side; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; mania and withdrawal.
  • GB-36 外丘 〔外丘〕wài qiū, Outer Hill
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the lower leg, 7 cùn superior to the tip of the lateral malleolus, on the anterior edge of the peroneus brevis muscle.
    Modern indications: Distension and fullness in the chest and rib-side; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; mania and withdrawal.
  • GB-37 光明 〔光明〕guāng míng, Bright Light
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the lower leg, 5 cùn superior to the tip of the lateral malleolus, on the anterior edge of the peroneus brevis muscle.
    Modern indications: Eye pain; night blindness; distension and pain of the breast; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs.
  • GB-38 阳辅 〔陽輔〕yáng fǔ, Yáng Assistance
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the lower leg, 4 cùn superior to the tip of the lateral malleolus, on the anterior edge of the peroneus brevis muscle.
    Modern indications: Hemilateral headache; pain in the outer canthus; scrofula; axillary swelling and pain; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi); painful swollen throat; distention and pain in the chest and rib-side: wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs.
  • GB-39 悬钟 〔懸鐘〕xuán zhōng, Suspended Bell
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the lower leg, 3 cùn superior to the tip of the lateral malleolus, immediately posterior to the lateral crest of the fibula in the narrow space between the bone and the peroneus brevis tendon.
    Modern indications: Stiff nape; distension and pain in the chest and rib-side; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; painful swollen throat; leg qì (jiǎo qì, beriberi): hemorrhoids.
  • GB-40 丘墟 〔丘墟〕qiū xū, Hill Ruins
    Modern location: Anterior to the lateral malleolus, in the hollow on the lateral side of the extensor digitorum longus tendon.
    Modern indications: Distension and pain in the chest and rib-side; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; malarial disease.
  • GB-41 足临泣 〔足臨泣〕zú lín qì, Foot Overlooking Tears
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the foot, between the fourth and fifth metatarsal bones, on the lateral (proximal) side of the extensor digitorum longus tendon that attaches to the little toe.
    Modern indications: Painful red swollen eyes; rib-side pain; menstrual irregularities; enuresis; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng); scrofula; painful swelling of the dorsum of the foot; malarial disease.
  • GB-42 地五会 〔地五會〕dì wǔ huì, Earth Fivefold Convergence
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the foot, between the fourth and fifth metatarsal bones, on the medial (distal) side of the extensor digitorum tendon that attaches to the little toe.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; red eyes; tinnitus; rib-side pain; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng); vomiting of blood (blood ejection) from internal damage; redness and swelling dorsum of the foot.
  • GB-43 侠溪 〔俠谿〕xiá xī, Pinched Ravine
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the foot, proximal to the margin of the web between the fourth and fifth toes, level with the metatarsophalangeal (mtp) articulation of the fourth toe.
    Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; tinnitus; deafness; painful red swollen eyes; rib-side pain; febrile disease; mammary welling-abscess (rǔ yōng).
  • GB-44 足窍阴 〔足竅陰〕zú qiào yīn, Foot Orifice Yīn
    Modern location: A little more than 1 fēn below the base of the nail on the lateral side of the fourth toe.
    Modern indications: Headache; painful red swollen eyes; deafness; painful swollen throat; febrile disease; insomnia; rib-side pain; cough counterflow; menstrual irregularities.
