This is the Acupoints section of CMD, which presents 400 or so channel and nonchannel points with location, classical location, local anatomy, indications, traditional indications, needling depth, stimulus, and point groups they belong to, and the meanings of their Chinese names. Links to the Dictionary table are provided.

    • Click Channel to access information in the Dictionary about the channel of interest.
    • Click on Acupoints to see a preview list of all the points on the channel. Just click on the one that interests you.

Searches

  • First, select Headword only or Headword and Text depending on whether you wish to search in the heading of an entry/article or through the heading and the text below it.
  • Then, in the search box, enter alphanumeric codes (e.g., LU-1), unaccented Pīnyīn, simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese, or English (literal translation of the point name).
    Note that joined-up Pīnyīn can be used to search for headwords, but not the whole text.
  • After entering your search word(s), you will see the Search Results appear. You can select
    • Starting with to give you headwords that start with your search string or
    • Containing to give headwords that contain (or the text of which contains) your search string.
  • A filter box below Results allows you to insert another search string to narrow your search. So, for example, if your search string is blood vacuity, you can add headache in the filter box. To find all acupoints in which blood vacuity and headache both appear, either in the headword or headword and text, depending on which selection you have made.

  • The texts include copious links to the Dictionary table.
  • For those studying Chinese, each character of the Chinese headword is linked to the Terms table, where examples of its use can be found, together with links to stroke order animations.

TB, Hand Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Triple Burner Channel Points

  • TB-1 关冲 〔關衝〕guān chōng, Passage Hub
    Modern location: A little more than 1 fēn below the base of the nail on the ulnar side of the fourth finger.
    Modern indications: Headache; red eyes; deafness; painful swollen throat; stiff tongue; febrile disease.
  • TB-2 液门 〔液門〕yè mén, Humor Gate
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the hand, proximal to the margin of the web between the fourth and fifth fingers, level with the metacarpophalangeal (mcp) articulation of the fourth finger.
    Modern indications: Headache; red eyes; deafness; painful swollen throat; malarial disease; pain in the arm and hand.
  • TB-3 中渚 〔中渚〕zhōng zhǔ, Central Islet
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the hand, between the fourth and fifth metacarpal bones, immediately proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joints.
    Modern indications: Headache; red eyes; tinnitus; deafness; painful swollen throat; febrile disease; pain in the elbow and arm; inability to bend and stretch the fingers.
  • TB-4 阳池 〔陽池〕yáng chí, Yáng Pool
    Modern location: On the dorsal aspect of the wrist, in the depression between the tendons of the extensor digitorum (communis) and the extensor digiti minimi.
    Modern indications: Painful red swollen eyes; deafness; painful swollen throat; malarial disease; dispersion-thirst; wrist pain.
  • TB-5 外关 〔外關〕wài guān, Outer Pass
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the forearm, 2 cùn proximal to the wrist, midway between the radius and the ulna.
    Modern indications: Febrile disease; headache; painful red swollen eyes; deafness; tinnitus; scrofula; pain in the cheek; rib-side pain; impediment pain in the upper limbs with inhibited bending and stretching of the arm; pain in the fingers; tremor of the hand.
  • TB-6 支沟 〔支溝〕zhī gōu, Branch Ditch
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the forearm, 3 cùn proximal to the wrist, midway between the radius and the ulna.
    Modern indications: Tinnitus; deafness; fulminant loss of voice; scrofula; rib-side pain; constipation; febrile disease.
  • TB-9 四渎 〔四瀆〕sì dú, Four Rivers
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the forearm, 5 cùn distal to the tip of the olecranon, midway between the radius and the ulna.
    Modern indications: Deafness; painful swollen throat; fulminant loss of voice; toothache; impediment pain (bì tòng) in the upper limbs.
  • TB-11 清冷渊 〔清冷淵〕qīng lěng yuān, Clear Cold Abyss
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the upper arm, in the depression about 1.5 cùn above the superior border of the olecranon when the elbow is bent.
    Modern indications: Headache; impediment pain (bì tòng) in the arms and shoulder; yellowing of the eyes.
  • TB-12 消泺 〔消濼〕xiāo luò, Dispersing Riverbed
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the upper arm, along the line connecting the tip of the olecranon and the acromial angle, midway between TB-11 (qīng lěng yuān) and TB-13 (nào huì).
    Modern indications: Headache; toothache; stiff nape; shoulder and back pain.
  • TB-13 臑会 〔臑會〕nào huì, Upper Arm Convergence
    Modern location: On the posterior aspect of the upper arm, on the line connecting the olecranon and the acromial angle, about 4 cùn inferior to the acromial angle at the posterior border of the deltoid muscle.
    Modern indications: Goiter; scrofula; impediment pain (bì tòng) in the upper limbs.
  • TB-15 天髎 〔天髎〕tiān liáo, Celestial Bone-Hole
    Modern location: On the upper back, in the body of the trapezius muscle, immediately above the superior angle of the scapula, midway between SI-13 (nào huì) and GB-21 (fēng shì).
    Modern indications: Shoulder and arm pain; painful stiffness of the neck and nape.
  • TB-16 天牖 〔天牖〕tiān yǒu, Celestial Window
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the neck, level with the angle of the mandible, on the posterior border of the sternocleidomastoid (scm) muscle.
    Modern indications: Headache; eye pain; deafness; scrofula; stiff nape.
  • TB-17 翳风 〔翳風〕yì fēng, Wind Screen
    Modern location: Underneath the earlobe, in the hollow between the mandible and the mastoid process.
    Modern indications: Tinnitus; deafness; deviated eyes and mouth; clenched jaw; toothache; swelling of the cheek; scrofula.
  • TB-18 瘈脉 〔瘈脈〕qì mài, Tugging Vessel
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the head, posterior to the helix of the ear, at the center of the mastoid process, one third of the distance around the arc formed by connecting TB-17 and TB-20.
    Modern indications: Headache; tinnitus; deafness; child fright wind.
  • TB-19 颅息 〔顱息〕lú xī, Skull Rest
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the head, posterior to the helix of the ear, in the depression two-thirds of the distance around the arc formed by connecting TB-17 and TB-20.
    Modern indications: Headache; tinnitus; deafness; child fright wind.
  • TB-20 角孙 〔角孫〕jiǎo sūn, Angle Vertex
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the head, immediately superior to the apex of the ear, just above the hairline.
    Modern indications: Swelling of the cheek; eye screens; toothache; stiff nape.
  • TB-22 和髎 〔和髎〕hé liáo, Harmony Bone-Hole
    Modern location: Anterior to the ear, level with the superior root of the ear, on the posterior edge of the preauricular hairline (i.e., the sideburn).
    Modern indications: Headache; tinnitus; deafness; toothache.
  • TB-23 丝竹空 〔絲竹空〕sī zhú kōng, Silk Bamboo Hole
    Modern location: On the lateral aspect of the face, in the depression on the posterior edge of the frontal bone, at the lateral end of the eyebrow.
    Modern indications: Headache; painful red swollen eyes; toothache; twitching of the eyelids; mania and withdrawal; epilepsy.
